What is it? Twitter.com is another social networking site, where you post small blogs or comments up to 140 characters. You can follow other members, and they can follow you, meaning that you can read each other's posts. It's pretty easy to figure out once you're in. Start surfing around and reading some tweets, then click FOLLOW when you like what you see. Soon, others will follow you as well, and you just need to attend the gathering. It's sort of like going to the pub, but bring your own drinks. You can join in the conversation by clicking the little return arrow at the end of a tweet, to reply to the speaker. Plus, there's a lot more to it once you get going.

Maui AG zoning - what does it mean?

AG Zoning on Maui

Here in Haiku Maui most properties are zoned AG (agricultural) which brings up the question.... what does AG zoning mean? In a nutshell it means that you are expected to be engaged in farming of some sort, and your ability to build will be governed by the rules of the county planning department. Typically you will be allowed to build 2 dwellings, one being no more than 1,000 sf. When applying for a building permit, you will be expected to submit a "farm plan" outlining your concept for income production along with a plot plan showing areas under cultivation or proposed cultivation.

My WWOOFer is coming tomorrow - AAACCCK

Our next WWOOFer arrives at the Kahului airport tomorrow, and I don't know if I'm ready.

We got her cabin ready today - I hope. When we went to "the minipad" to check it out, the place had been invaded by ants! Those little bastards had made a nest in the window blinds, and in the windows themselves. Not to mention the garbage can that was breeding mosquitoes! Anyway, we got it all taken care of and now the minipad is tidy and ready to occupy.... whew.

This will be our second time experiencing a traveling WWOOFer. So far so good. I hope we can keep her busy. She likes to surf!

Pukalani Superette - a great local store

Pukalani Superette - Pukalani Maui Hawaii - it's priceless

- I love this upcountry store - they are small and friendly and they have some of the best prices on things like Kula sweet onions. They also have a great selection of ready to eat things.

- yesterday I stopped in on my way home from Kula, it was late in the day and I really just wanted to get home and work in my garden, so .....

Honolua Surf Company opens the doors in Paia.

Just recently we now have a new surf shop in town. Honolua Surf Co. has all the shelves and racks fully stocked with the latest beach fashions and accessories. Stop in when you're driving through Paia and pick up some cool clothes or bags. Call them at 808 579-9593 Other Paia news: - be sure to come to Paia on the last Friday of each month for Paia Last Fridays - there will be art and crafts for sale, and other fun events such as last week's bikini show hosted by Hana Highway Surf. Stay for dinner at one of the many great restaurants.- Haz Beans Coffee Shop is open, on Baldwin Ave, just a few doors up from where they used to be, in a larger building. Free wi-fi for all coffee lovers.- A new book store is opening up in the old Ikeda Building, also on Baldwin Ave.

A Working Very Hard WWOOFer

I have a great and wonderful time being with my host family, Georgie & Murray, and also working in the farm is a special experience to me because I have never done this before.
